Metal Camp - 2019

The Metal Camp programme, traditionally held in every edition of the Prof. Brahm Prakash Memorial Materials Quiz, was conceived as an avenue for students and budding scientists to visit nuclear facilities and witness first-hand the advanced research going on in the field of materials and structures.

This year, participating students and escorts will be taken around various nuclear facilities existing at Kalpakkam, such as Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS), which houses the workhorse of Indian nuclear reactors- the Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR). Students will also visit the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR), a reactor with unique features that are unparalleled around the world.

For the first time, students will be taken to the Nuclear Demonstration Desalination Plant at Kalpakkam - the largest nuclear reactor-coupled hybrid seawater desalination plant in the world.
