Theme Meeting on Deformation and Fracture

The theme meeting was inaugurated by Dr. G. Amarendra, Director MMG and MSG. Dr. A.K. Bhaduri delivered the inaugural address, where the necessity of understanding mechanical behaviour of materials for their efficient technological use was brought out.

Dr. Aniruddha Moitra made an informative presentation detailing the history of materials and mechanics research at IGCAR over the past 25 years, peppered with amusing anecdotes and personal memories. The second talk of the meeting, delivered by Dr. V. Karthik, brought alive the unique dimensional and deformation behaviour of SS 316-type steels following irradiation in FBTR.

Dr. J. Christopher showcased the important aspect of modelling deformation behaviour through his talk on models and their applicability to deformation/damage mechanics of structural materials.

The final talk by Mr. Yatindra explained the finer aspects of creep crack growth of fast breeder reactor materials using results from studies carried out at IGCAR.
